In an increasingly isolating world, can technology allow us to better connect in the same physical space? Social Pop AR is a project exploring ways web-based augmented reality can bring people together.
Corporation Pop has been designing and developing augmented reality products for over a decade. The MediaCity Immersive Technologies Innovation Hub has funded our latest project Social Pop AR.
‘Social Pop AR’ (SPAR) is a proof-of-concept platform. It integrates real time AR with a 3D Web Engine in a mobile web browser. This allows people to share the same AR content simultaneously from their own device. The pioneering platform will initially showcase ‘Tiny Bands’ a personalised and immersive group experience drawing on Corporation Pop’s long history of working with the music industry. We want to open up the market for musicians to connect better with their fans across festivals and live events.
Social experience
In this video the Corporation Pop team working on Social Pop AR explain its benefits to developers and users. With a focus on interactivity and a community experience, the platform will allow a shared AR experience which doesn’t require a download and is unique to each person.
With Social Pop AR, we are hoping to provide a software solution to something that is currently difficult to get into. We are moving away from 2D, limited interaction experiences and opening up what is possible with new technology. Our hope is to make a much more collaborative tech experience for people who already spend a lot of time on their devices.
Partners
Alongside the MediaCity Immersive Technologies Innovation Hub, we are working with two current clients. One is a startup, the other a long established and internationally recognised music brand experienced in delivering immersive tech to festivals. They are keen to be onboard from the beginning in order that they might purchase the product when we commercialise it.
Watch this space
Social Pop AR is a proof of concept project however our intention is to make it widely available in due course. We’re incredibly excited by the potential of the project and we can’t wait to see where it takes us and what opportunities open up along the way.
